About project

The Junior Economic Club is an entirely student-led 501(c)(3) non-profit that firmly believes that given the right guidance and support, high school students are capable of addressing the issues facing our society.

The Club brings together bright and ambitious high school students in an exceptional community of discussion, exposure, and leadership. We invest in Chicago's future by allowing students to understand and solve real-world economic problems in the public and private sectors. In doing so, we nurture a more effective, experienced, and responsible generation of leaders.

Brief

New Webflow website based on our existing Squarespace website. They also need this site to be targeted towards a national audience, rather than just one specific city (they hope to have a section on the site where each chapter will have own page for this city-specific information)

Target

Combine all of cities’ websites into one national website that includes a page with information on each individual city to reduce redundancies.

Make  website more modern and professional, appearance-wise.

Encourage high school students viewing the site want to apply, teachers to share information, and professionals to speak

Following the principle of user-centered design, “Give visitors what they’re looking for,” we implement the following strategy
Redesign process

We used mind-mapping to envision the website’s information architecture, prioritize the hierarchy of pieces, and create a fully functional website. To enhance the overall UX, we must anticipate their needs and present relevant information at each step. As a result, the site structure is influenced bt various user types. It was able to simplify user flows between sites based on this by deleting unneeded pages, combining existing ones, and creating new ones as needed

The first version we created had the content as the wireframe the client provided, but with a change more creative on the layout. However, clients commented that it would be difficult for viewers to read the content and interact with the website. During the meeting with the client, he emphasized many times that the layout should go left to right, top to bottom to make it easier for users to read the content. It’s good for us to learn the conversion.

Because client comes from UK, so we thought we would use image of white people. However, to bring the brand to the world, we need to use images of different ethnicities around the world. It was a lesson for us about using images for websites.

Typography

Helvetica Neue
Font Poppins

Helvetica Neue is a perfect re-working of typeface that comprises a perfect combination of widths and heights. Many changes are made in order to make this typeface worth utilizing. A few changes include better readability and legibility, enlarge spacing, Punctuation, and additional numbers. These additional changes when combine make Helvetica Neue a perfect and worth recommending typeface.

Colour Pallete

Gray is a neutral color and is the foundation of the color system. Almost everything in UI design — text, form fields, backgrounds, dividers — are usually gray. Navy blue and Gold are their branding colours.
